Newfoundland Dog History
The history of Newfoundland dogs is uncertain but it is common thought that Newfoundlands were originated in Newfoundland (Island of Canada), brought by Viking just after the year 1001. The purpose of breeding it was to help the fishermen by moving nets, saving the shipwrecked sailors and being companion during long sea voyages. Finally, it paves the way to U.S and Europe. Nowadays, it has got fame as working dogs, show dogs and house dogs. Returning to Newfoundland, yet it is still a hardworking dog that is helping the fishermen. In 1886, AKC recognized it.
